tame thick frizzy hair

Happy Thursday, ladies! Welcome to my tips to tame thick, frizzy hair over 50!

Since I have lived with this hair for 71 years, I do have a few tips to tame thick, frizzy hair.

Several of you have given me such positive feedback lately about my hair, and asked what I am doing.

While I do still have some days that I battle the frizz, the biggest change is to a drier climate helping to tame the frizz.

However, before arriving here I was experiencing success to tame thick, frizzy hair and decided to share those tips.

So, if you or a friend fall into this category…let’s get going and begin with a little history for me.

TIPS TO TAME THICK, FRIZZY HAIR OVER 50: MY OWN HAIR STORY

Here I am as a senior in high school which was also in a different West Texas town with this drier climate.

My hair has always been thick and I battled it to be straighter for years.

I confess that at that young age, I did not realize what a blessing my healthy hair was…but now I know.

My mother actually would roll it with orange juice cans to get the smoother look I desired.

For those who are thinking, “You should have gone to a shorter cut,” I have always preferred my hair longer…and my daughter is now the same way.

Through the years, I have done short to mid-length styles and always return to longer hair…it Is me…if if just shoulder length.

This is a faculty picture during my teaching career.

I would dry my hair and to tame the frizz, would put it on top of my head and then use heat rollers for this type of style.

As I became busier, it was harder to deal with the South Texas humidity, so, I would often pull it back into a pony tail.

TIPS TO TAME THICK, FRIZZY HAIR OVER 50: TIP #1

TIP #1: SELECT A STYLIST WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH THICK HAIR

For the first time in a very long time, I have a stylist who has long hair.

Today’s feature pictures are of me just returning from her salon.

She is very good and has an understanding of how to tame thick, frizzy hair with a good cut.

Her layering has made a huge difference for me since moving here.

Of course, I have had layers before…but. not with the same results.

I think most of us over 50 understand that the cut is so important to tame the hair.

I have experienced stylists before who did not understand that thick hair must be layered differently in order to tame it.

Those were times when I was bushy and out of control …especially on the sides and top.

I am so pleased with the layering and the cut my new stylist is giving me.

TIP #2: SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

I spoke with a salon customer a few years ago who believed that shampoo and conditioner wash out and have not taming effect.

I am sorry but for those of us with thick hair, that is simply not true.

Plus, it is worth every penny to me, to have products that work and tame thick, frizzy hair.

Another excellent stylist I had in San Antonio and went to until I could no longer afford her, introduced me to the GK HAIR TAMING SYSTEM with COLOR PROTECTION.

I love these products and they have made the difference for me to tame thick, frizzy hair.

The main ingredient is Juvexin. The website explains:

“Juvexin is a keratin anti-aging protein blend optimized for the hair. The most revolutionary development in hair care in the past 50 years. It started with keratin, and then evolved to Juvexin. GK Hair is the first and only company to harness the beauty benefits of Juvexin, which is delivered to the hair in its natural state. Extracted naturally plant-based sources: Pea and Quinoa, Juvenix V2 favors both, your vegan lifestyle and the environment.”

I prefer the Moisturizing Shampoo for Color Protection to the Balancing Shampoo. However, because my hair tends to frizz, I only shampoo once a week.

The DEEP CONDITIONER HAIR TREATMENT is my conditioner of choice…others just did not work…I need a heavy duty conditioning treatment each time I wash my hair.

I do not have any problems with greasy hair after using these…the results are phenomenal.

Please know that the links I share today are not affiliate links. These are products I stand by and desire to share with you.

TIP #3: PICK STYLING PRODUCTS FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE

Another blog introduced me to the COLOR WOW products a couple of years ago, and it is for all ages.

I have tried a few of the products, but there are two I will standby and use daily.

The COLOR WOW DREAM COAT SUPERNATURAL SPRAY is excellent.

It has been supernatural to tame thick, frizzy hair.

I use it two ways.

First, after I towel dry my hair, I spray this generously and comb through.

Since I have thick hair, I allow it to air dryer just a bit, then use a hair dryer brush to complete drying and styling.

The next day, I will get up, and put my hair in a pony tail on top of my hair.

Pulling down small groups of the hair at a time, I spray with the Dream Coat and then once again use the styling brush on low.

Before going out, I spay a little of the COLOR WOW CULT FAVORITE FIRM & FLEXIBLE HAIR SPRAY.

I now live in a windy city and this holds without feeling like hair spray at all. I love it.

There is also no build up…the next day, after brushing, it feels gone.

On the website, you can find other products under FRIZZY HAIR.

In between shampoos, I use at least twice the KERASTASE ULTIME L’HULLE ORIGINAL REFILLABLE HYDRATING HAIR OIL.

It is pricey but worth it to me to use for special occasions or photo sessions.

I love the healthy glow it adds to my hair.

My 11-year-old grandson also got turned on to it at my house to tame his “morning hair.”

He is at that age where appearance begins to matter.

Ladies, all of these products can be found on Amazon and that is how I usually purchase them.

For those of you with similar hair or relatives with similar hair, I hope this will help to tame thick, frizzy hair over 50.

Please feel free to ask any questions…and thank you for being here.
